How to Save Snapchat Messages?

First, lets the basics down; here’s how to save Snapchat messages in just a few steps before you even lose them:

  • Open the chat screen where you would like to save a message before it disappears.
  • After sending a message or receiving one, tap and hold the message which you like to save.
  • A pop-up prompt providing four options will appear. Click on the “Save in Chat” option to save the message.

  • All saved messages will be highlighted with a grey background.
  • To remove a saved message, tap and hold the saved message. Choose “Unsave in Chat”.

Another function that you can enable to have your chats be available longer instead of disappearing immediately after viewing, is to change the time duration of the chat

Here’s How to change the time duration of Snapchat messages in just a few steps:-

  • Open the chat screen, click your friend’s profile icon on the top left side of the screen.

  • Your Friend’s Profile Page will open up. Now, click on the three-dotted icon on the top right corner.

  • A series of options will pop up. Select “Delete Chats” and choose “24 Hours after Viewing”.

This function has to be individually enabled for all the profiles. After enabling, the chats will be saved on your phone for 24 hours before disappearing.

Recovering the Snapchat messages that you forgot to or were unable to save is not a hard task if you follow the methods mentioned below.

Recovering Snapchat Messages On Android

Andriod having a more open and customizable interface provides for easy and sure-fire ways to recover Snapchat messages.

Method 1: How to Recover Snapchat Messages Without A Computer

Like most data that you receive from applications, Snapchat also saves its data somewhere on your device. All data you receive is stored in your devices file manager; and

Here is how to do it in just a few steps:

  • Install or open “File Manager” or “Files” on your device.
  • In your “File Manager” or “Files” application search and locate the folder named com.snapchat.android
  • Now in the cache folder, you can trace and get your all deleted Snapchat chat history easily. Locate the “.nomedia” extension. (make sure show hidden files is turned on in your application settings).

  • For photos, you can go to com.snapchat.android> cache> Rece_image_snaps (Received_image_snaps).

  • Rename all the “.nomedia” extensions

If done right and all the extensions have been renamed, the messages should now be recovered. This method though tedious will definitely recover your Snapchat messages.

This method can also be viable on Apple devices only if you jailbreak your iPhone or iPad as otherwise, the “.nomedia” extension will not be accessible.

Method 2: Using FoneLab For Android

Android Data recovery applications such as FoneLab have to be used in order to recover old data that are no longer accessible through straight forward means directly from your phone.

Here is how to do it in just a few steps:

  • Firstly, Download and install FoneLab for Android on your Windows PC or Mac.
  • Connect your mobile device to your PC using a USB cable.
  • Wait for your mobile device to be detected by the FoneLab Application.
  • On the FoneLab app, go to the Android Data Recovery section.
  • You will receive a prompt to choose the files you want to recover, select “Contacts & Messages”

  • The rooting process will begin. Wait until the process has completed, it may take a few minutes.
  • After the process completion, you will see all the deleted messages here.
  • Select the messages you want to recover and press on the “Recover” button.

If all the steps are followed properly, you have successfully recovered Snapchat messages on Android.

Recovering Snapchat Messages On iPhone

There are not very many ways available on iOS devices unlike Android unless they are jailbroken but there is still a method that provides the best result.

Using FoneLab For iPhone

You can recover Snapchat messages on iPhone, but it requires an iPhone data recovery application such as FoneLab to be used.

Here is how to do it in just a few steps:

  • Firstly, Download and install FoneLab for iPhone on your Windows PC or Mac.

  • Connect your Apple device (iPhone/iPad or iPod) to your PC using a USB cable.
  • Put your Apple device into recovery mode.
  • You will receive a “Start Scan” prompt on your Apple device. Click on it to start the scanning process.
  • All the data found and read from your Apple device will now be visible on the FoneLab application on your PC.
  • In the FoneLab menu, on the left-side on the app screen, click on the option “Messages”.
  • In this column, lost Snapchat messages will be present.
  • Click on the message you would like to retrieve.
  • Now, click on the “Recover” button present at the bottom right corner.
  • Move those messages into a folder and wait until the recovery process has finished.

If all the steps are followed properly, you have successfully recovered Snapchat messages on iPhone.

To Conclude

Follow any of the methods mentioned above as any one or more of them will help you to solve the issue. It is highly recommended that Snapchat should not be used to send important messages, instead use other communication platforms such as Whatsapp, Instagram, or by mail. These platforms make it easy to recover messages, unlike Snapchat.

Though these methods are a little tedious, they are safe and sure to work. Hopefully, this guide will come in handy for all of you who want to recover Snapchat messages from their phone.
